WHAT YOU THINK IS YOURS ISN'T YOURS

2 days ago, I was chatting with a friend of mine who's presently in on of the most popular states in the United States of America and I told him that my spirit has directed me to talk to him and I must. He smiled and said no problem. Of course, you will agree with me that it's either he's wealthy or he's from a family which is.Even if everyone doesn't agree with me, fellow Nigerians will surely do because we know what it is in the present situation of the economy for someone to travel out just to enjoy some weeks holiday. (That's the funny part) Moving forward: So, to his amazement, I said "I know your parents are wealthy but guess what friend, their wealth belong to them, it's not yours". He paused a while before he replied me saying: Oh yes, I know brother. I further explained my point to him for better comprehension. I said, even though after their death, it's possible you get some percentage of their wealth (so far my friend isn't a bastard) but yet, it's still not yours. I know within myself that he was just trying to move on with me smoothly by saying "yes" "yes". So, I didn't stop there. I said to him: it's simply not yours because you didn't work for it, your parents did before he reciprocate .....no, its reciprocated. (someone would have been thinking he's seen a Taiwo to exercise his new knowledge on English language on). My dear friends and beloved ones, many people most especially young people like us fail in our pursuits in life because of this one reason. We think what we inherit from our parents or what they possess is ours or will one day be. So, we get so relaxed and let go of our personal goals. My father will say: "oun tako bajiya fun, kiipe lowo eni; oun taba fara sise fun, lounpe lowo eni" "Whatever we don't struggle for doesn't last within us but what we struggle for does". It's a primary thinking for many young people who found themselves in a wealthy family. They see it as being on top of the world forgetting the fact that "its just a privilege". They flex on the streets, ride exotic cars, travel round the continent, get lazy at school, join bad groups and do all sort of odd things. All these they do because they are too sure of their tickets; my parents are there; nothing will happen. I can beat my chest to it that; this is another reason why we have children from the wealthy homes being head of bad gangs and causing immoral crisis all around. They see it not as a big deal. Hello dear son and daughter of rich man; many things will happen. You will loose your dignity, you will loose your capability, you will not realize your true self, you will have no focus, you will have a non-balanced future, your children will cause you, you will have nothing to offer than the reserved, you will.... if you don't stop riding on the throne of your parents and go for the best for yourself. In conclusion; Let's get over the wrong thinking about what's not ours that we see as ours. Work harder for whatever you want to be yours. With that, you can boldly say; these are mine, I own them. Nevertheless, when you are blessed to have mere opportunities just like my friend, don't hesitate to accept them, they might help you to build what will be yours but don't see it as an entitlement, it's rather a privilege like I said. So, use it wisely. I hope you not only enjoy but also learn from this piece i just combined after my dinner. You can trust me, I made the meal myself. Yours in patriotism TAIWO AKOREDE.
